Information Security Survey in Slovak Republic 2006
Two years after completing the first historical "complex information security survey" for the Slovák Republic (the results of which were published in 2005) the proven team has now successfully completed the second survey. This survey has not only provided interested parties with a benchmark úpon which to compare their own results but has also allowed the results to be compared with the Czech Republic and the results from the first Slovák survey. When comparing the surveys, it has been pleasing to see that there has been advancement in actual results which no doubt are an expression of the advances in thinking and performance.
Whether the above mentioned advances in thinking and performance háve been steered in the correct way is the key question - the driver of the survey was the desire to capture trends and related quality and quantity changes within the information security area. After evaluation, a correction of the identified advances should follow so as to better define information security direction and placement. The survey authors' comments are given in šuch a way as to provide only a clue as to the interpretation of its results. It wasn't the authors' aim to submit an exhaustive reflection on the status or direction of the survey. If the comments are able to get the readers' attention and challenge them to perform a self evalution of the situation, then one of the primáry objectives of the survey has been accomplished.
Thanks to the experience of our international team, magazíne DSM - Data Security Management, KPMG Slovensko and the National Security Authority who háve been involved with the Slovakian information security survey from the beginning, and who háve over the last two years ensured the successful completion of the current version, it has been possible to refine questions and their focus while preserving sufficient leeway for benchmarking. We believe that the submitted results of the survey will be useful to information managers' activities and anyone else who is able to affect business practices in this area.
