User Authentication and Electronic Transaction Authorization
While the words authentication and authorization have become part of our everyday vocabulary, we still often face the problem of determining whether a given approach is in fact authentication or rather authorization, or even a combination of both. The idea for this Manager’s Handbook came from numerous discussions of this kind, and, in particular, from projects related to both user and data authentication and electronic transaction authorization.
We therefore decided to focus this Manager’s Handbook on issues of user authentication and electronic transaction authorization. This Handbook follows on from other titles published in recent years - Information Security Management, the Self Assessment Guide, Business Continuity Planning, Project Management, Strategies for Building Modern Telecommunication Solutions, Business Intelligence and management and Audit of Information Security.
The individual chapters cover a wide range of issues, starting with basic terms and concepts and advancing on to some rather interesting solutions for authentication and authorization. We did our best to offer information of interest to all reader levels so that it can useful to both beginners, who are approaching the subject for the first time, and also to seasoned professionals who want to broaden their knowledge of the relevant issues.
It is up to you, our readers, to judge whether we succeeded.
